10 Days of Parties, Cocktail Receptions, and Celebrity Sightings (Someone’s gotta do it)
This fall, Blue Door had the privilege of working with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for the second consecutive year.
Our work with TIFF included our role as the PR agency for Tequila Tromba (Official Tequila of TIFF) and Vieni Estates (Official Sparkling Wine of TIFF). Our team was responsible for all logistics leading up to the festival, experiential activations, LCBO integrations, influencer relations, and overarching media relations for both brands.
Blue Door also had the privilege of working with two of our restaurant clients, MARBL and Baro, who were both official hospitality partners of this year’s festival. Over 10 days, MARBL and Baro saw a number of celebrities pass through, as both venues were home to Nordstrom Supper Suite and the LA Times headquarters respectively. Celebrity visits included Nicolas Cage, Susan Sarandon, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Lopez.
During TIFF, Blue Door was busy hustling around the city supporting clients, setting up activations, and networking on behalf of the brands and restaurants we represent. Here’s a recap of where we went, who we saw, and what we did during TIFF.
Hosted at the stunning Shangri La hotel, TIFF’s Opening Night Gala kicked off the festival. With a guest list of industry, sponsors, donors, and media, TIFF’s Opening Night Party saw upwards of 1,500 guests throughout the evening. This year’s sponsors Vieni Estates and Tequila Tromba had ambient activations on the VIP Rooftop Terrace, with a custom-built pergola garden by Vieni, and a floral swing photo-activation by Tromba.
Nordstrom took over MARBL restaurant for an extravagant three days of celebrity-fuelled activities. In the first few days of TIFF, they hosted Blackbird stars Rainn Wilson and Susan Saradon, Hustlers actress Kiki Palmer, Abominable star Sarah Paulson, and many others. On September 7th, the restaurant was the venue of choice for Creative Coalition, who honoured Nicolas Cage for his philanthropic work.
A highly anticipated event during TIFF, Blue Door was honoured to take part in the 4th Annual B.L.A.C.K. Ball, hosted by brothers Shamier Anderson and Stephan James. Blue Door client’s Tequila Tromba and Vieni Estates participated as official alcohol sponsors for the night. Highlights of the evening included an appearance from Shia LaBeouf and Meryl Streep, a surprise performance by Sean Paul, and visits from Toronto Raptors players.
For the third year, the LA Times bought out Baro’s third-floor space for interviews with top celebrities and producers attending the festival. Several A-list stars stopped by for interviews and portraits, including Matt Damon, Jennifer Lopez, Michael B. Jordan, Christian Bale, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who was in town for her new movie “The Sky is Pink”.
Drag Queen brunch - need we say more? On the first Sunday morning of TIFF, Tequila Tromba and Vieni Estates took part in a boozy brunch sponsored by Netflix. The event, held on the terrace of Malaparte at TIFF Bell Lightbox, celebrated and promoted LGBTQ2 creatives in the film and movie industry.
To kick off the first weekend of the festival, Blue Door attended the annual IT House x Producers Ball. In its ninth year, Drew and Jonathan Scott and Natasha Koifman returned as hosts, inviting producers, talent, and directors to celebrate accomplishments within the TV, film, and digital media production industry. Vieni Estates and Lost Craft Beer were both in attendance, serving guests Momenti sparkling wine and Revivale beer.
Clients Vieni Estates and Tequila Tromba were found being poured at the St. Joseph Media Style Lounge bar, held at Empire Maverick from September 6th - 8th. Offering a selection of pre-red carpet treatments and lots of free goodies, the Style Lounge was the spot to stop between shows and parties for a little pick-me-up, away from the hustle and bustle of Festival Street.
Hosted at Pick 6ix Sports, Hollywood North held its 5th-anniversary party, celebrating Canadian talent in film. Guests were greeted with a glass of Momenti sparkling wine from Vieni Estates or a cold Lost Craft beer, and were invited to shoot their shot on the patio, with basketball activations to keep with the theme of Pick 6ix.
There’s no better way to celebrate the end of the festival than with a glass of sparkling wine or a refreshing paloma. Vieni Estates and Tequila Tromba joined in the closing night cocktail festivities at Cactus Club Cafe, where TIFF constituents enjoyed exquisite food and beverage before heading to the closing night film, Radioactive, at Roy Thomson Hall.
It was a busy 10 days, but we’re already gearing up for next year. Can’t wait for TIFF 2020!
